As a Senior Specialist, Project Engineer 1, you will lead the execution of complex hardware and software systems on airborne platforms, specifically focusing on Digital Integrated Communication System product lines. You will manage the full lifecycle from concept development and requirements definition through design, integration, testing, and long-term sustainment. Your daily responsibilities include coordinating cross-functional engineering teams, managing program risks, ensuring adherence to life-cycle processes, and serving as a primary technical interface for customers. You will oversee components such as audio management, communication interfaces, control panels, radios, and networking elements while ensuring interoperability with avionics and mission systems. The role requires expertise in software, hardware, and systems engineering to solve integration challenges for secure voice connectivity. Key skills include program planning, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and managing technical performance metrics within scope, schedule, and budget.
Lead cross-functional engineering teams through the full lifecycle of hardware and software system development.
Manage program activities to ensure technical requirements are met within scope, schedule, and budget.
Resolve complex design and integration challenges for Digital Integrated Communication System components.
Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors regarding component performance, delivery status, and technical issues.
Serve as the primary technical interface for customers throughout all phases of the program lifecycle.
Track engineering performance metrics and report monthly status updates to senior leadership.
Ensure all products comply with performance, reliability, safety standards, and internal engineering policies.
Lead bid and proposal activities in accordance with established engineering processes.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of relevant experience, a Graduate Degree and 4 years of experience, or 10 years of experience without a degree.
Active DoD Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret (SCI) clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
Demonstrated experience in program planning, guidance, and engineering execution within scope, schedule, and budget.
Demonstrated leadership experience as a Task Leader, IPT Leader, Functional Manager, or similar role.
Demonstrated experience communicating with internal and external customer stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in aircraft integration, test, delivery, and understanding of engineering processes.
Experience in software/hardware engineering, systems engineering (including test), project engineering, and ICS systems; excellent communication and root cause analysis skills (preferred).
