The Senior Specialist, Information Security Systems Engineering serves as the accountable owner for cybersecurity implementation and validation across the program. This role involves developing, documenting, and implementing system security requirements while collaborating with systems engineering, software, hardware, network engineering, and integration teams to ensure alignment with mission and regulatory expectations. Key responsibilities include managing secure network support activities like segmentation, routing, switching, and encryption; performing vulnerability management tasks including STIG implementation and compliance scanning; and developing accreditation documentation such as System Security Plans and Continuous Monitoring Plans. The role requires expertise in NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171, and RMF processes. Technical skills include Windows and Linux security administration, TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, and tools like ACAS, Nessus, SCAP, or CIS Benchmarks to solve complex cybersecurity challenges in national security environments.
Define, document, and trace security requirements across systems, software, hardware, and network components.
Support secure network activities including segmentation, routing, switching, access control, and encryption.
Develop and update accreditation documentation such as System Security Plans (SSPs) and Security Assessment Reports (SARs).
Execute vulnerability management tasks including STIG implementation, compliance scanning, and remediation tracking.
Assess security risks for engineering teams and document evidence for system authorization.
Perform verification and validation activities including test planning and preparation for customer cybersecurity reviews.
Ensure system compliance with NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171, and RMF processes.
Communicate security status, risks, and compliance progress to senior engineers and program stakeholders.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience, a graduate degree and 4 years of experience, or 10 years of experience without a degree.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoW Secret clearance (and potentially a Top Secret clearance).
Security+ or CISSP certification (preferred).
Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-171 principles (preferred).
Experience with Windows/Linux security administration and networking fundamentals like TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls, and secure communications (preferred).
Familiarity with DoW STIGs, ACAS, Nessus, SCAP, CIS Benchmarks, or similar compliance tools (preferred).
Experience in DoW or national security environments, system assessments, continuous monitoring, and sustainment of authorized systems (preferred).
