Specialist, Information Security Systems Engineering will support the security accreditation and compliance of mission-critical communication systems within a high-assurance defense environment. The role involves executing Risk Management Framework lifecycle activities, including categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring. You will develop and maintain critical documentation such as SSPs, SARs, and POA&Ms while collaborating with cross-functional software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to integrate security controls. Key technical requirements include applying NIST SP 800-53 and CNSSI 1253 standards, implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and managing Authority to Operate processes. The role requires expertise in cybersecurity governance, risk, and compliance, with specific familiarity regarding cryptographic systems, FIPS 140-3, eMASS or XACTA tools, and networking concepts like TCP/IP and boundary defense for embedded or communication systems.
Execute and support all RMF lifecycle activities including categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, and authorization.
Develop, maintain, and review critical security documentation such as SSPs, SARs, POA&Ms, and Security Plans.
Interpret and apply security controls from NIST SP 800-53, CNSSI 1253, and other relevant guidance.
Support the implementation and validation of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and configuration baselines.
Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure security requirements are integrated into systems, software, and hardware.
Interface with internal stakeholders, Authorizing Officials, and external assessors to support system certification and accreditation.
Track and report compliance status, risks, and remediation activities to program leadership.
Develop and contribute to continuous monitoring strategies for ongoing system compliance.
What we're looking for
Must have a DoD Secret Clearance.
Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree and 4 years of experience, or 10 years of experience without a degree.
One DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Experience with RMF lifecycle activities, NIST SP 800-53 controls, and STIGs.
Exposure to cryptographic systems, FIPS 140-3, or NSA certification processes (preferred).
Experience with high-assurance/classified systems, eMASS, XACTA, or ATO processes (preferred).
Understanding of networking concepts, embedded systems, and Agile or DevSecOps environments.
