What you'll do

Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch's core storage and query engine components.
Resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
Improve ES|QL query processing and optimize data layouts for object storage.
Lead the architectural evolution of core storage systems to improve observability solutions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert and mentor for the wider engineering organization.
Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests from the global community.
Write high-quality, idiomatic Java code for the Elasticsearch platform.

What we're looking for

Write idiomatic modern Java with a deep understanding of concurrency primitives and data structures.
Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
Experience with one or more data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code.
Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous and transparent communication.
Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems (preferred).
Experience with open source projects and familiar with various source control workflows and CI (preferred).
Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives (preferred).
