What you'll do

Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch's core storage and query engine components.
Resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
Improve ES|QL query processing and optimize data layouts for object storage.
Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build and improve industry-leading observability solutions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert and mentor for the wider engineering organization.
Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests from the global community.
Write high-quality, idiomatic modern Java code for core system features.

What we're looking for

You must have strong core Java skills and a deep understanding of its concurrency primitives.
You must be able to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
You must have experience implementing techniques to index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
You must have experience with at least one data storage technology such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
You must be able to use AI tools to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code while maintaining ownership of results.
You must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills for a distributed team environment.
Experience with open source projects, various source control workflows, and continuous integration is preferred.
Experience in database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development is preferred.
