Senior Software Engineer, Forward Deployed AI Engineer joins the newly created Forward Deployed Engineering team within the extended R&D organization. This role focuses on accelerating application modernization programs by exploring and implementing Generative AI technologies to transition legacy systems into modern architectures. You will work alongside project teams to evaluate, build, and deploy tools that facilitate migration processes while providing feedback to influence the product roadmap. Day-to-day responsibilities include executing proofs of concept, developing tool prototypes, and collaborating with product teams to address technical challenges in data modeling and code conversion. The role requires proficiency in Java or C#, experience with SQL and relational databases like Oracle or PostgreSQL, and knowledge of MongoDB and JSON models. Candidates must also possess a strong understanding of Generative AI concepts and tools including Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, and OpenAI APIs.
Execute customer application modernization initiatives across all phases of the software lifecycle.
Build and implement tools to accelerate migration projects using Generative AI technologies.
Conduct proofs of concept by developing or extending existing tools for customer success.
Provide technical feedback from field experience to influence the MongoDB product roadmap.
Develop playbooks for customer application modernization in collaboration with internal teams.
Evaluate and select third-party tools to improve migration processes and developer experience.
Communicate complex technical proposals and solutions clearly to both internal teams and customers.
Assist sales teams by evaluating opportunities and providing technical expertise during prospect meetings.
What we're looking for
Must have 4+ years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant, or full stack developer working with enterprise clients.
Proficiency in Java or C# is required, including familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks.
Strong knowledge of enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment and operations.
Experience developing enterprise applications using relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, or PostgreSQL) with SQL and stored procedures.
Experience with MongoDB and JSON-based document models is highly desirable.
Understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services, including experience building tools with OpenAI APIs, Claude Code, Gemini, or Cursor.
Strong communication skills for collaborating across teams and presenting to customers in both spoken and written formats.
Ability to travel to customer sites for approximately 7 days per month within the region.
