Senior Software Engineer, Forward Deployed AI Engineer joins the newly created Forward Deployed Engineering team within the extended R&D organization. This role focuses on accelerating application modernization programs by exploring and implementing generative AI technologies to transition legacy systems into modern architectures. You will work alongside project teams to evaluate, build, and deploy tools that facilitate migration processes while providing feedback to influence the product roadmap. Day-to-day responsibilities include executing proofs of concept, developing tool prototypes, and assisting sales teams in evaluating opportunities. The role requires proficiency in Java or C#, experience with SQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, or PostgreSQL, and familiarity with MongoDB and JSON document models. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of enterprise software architectures and generative AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, and OpenAI APIs to solve complex technical challenges.
Execute customer application modernization initiatives across all phases of the lifecycle including assessment, design, and migration.
Develop and implement tools to accelerate legacy application transformations using Generative AI technologies.
Build and execute proofs of concept (POCs) by developing or extending existing tools for customer success.
Provide technical feedback to R&D teams to influence the MongoDB product roadmap and feature development.
Identify, evaluate, and select third-party tools to facilitate modernization processes across project teams.
Create playbooks for customer application modernization engagements in collaboration with internal engineering and product teams.
Assist sales teams by evaluating opportunities and providing technical expertise during prospect meetings.
Communicate complex technical proposals clearly to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
What we're looking for
Must have 4+ years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant, or full stack developer working with enterprise clients.
Proficiency in Java or C# is required, including familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks.
Strong knowledge of enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment/operations is required.
Experience developing enterprise applications using relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, or PostgreSQL) with SQL and stored procedures is required.
Experience with MongoDB and JSON-based document models is highly desirable.
Understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services is required, with experience building tools using OpenAI APIs being a plus.
Excellent communication skills are required for internal team collaboration and customer meetings.
Must be based in Dublin to support the hybrid working model.
