Senior Software Engineer, Capacity & Efficiency

What you'll do

• Build forecast-driven capacity planning for the storage and database fleet based on traffic history and known events.
• Design and build a capacity planner for Aurora to set reader counts and writer sizes from demand signals.
• Rightsize databases, caches, and block storage based on instance size, provisioned IOPS, and throughput.
• Manage S3 efficiency by implementing storage class strategies, lifecycle policies, and retention rules.
• Develop closed-loop automation with guardrails and progressive rollouts to apply infrastructure changes safely in production.
• Measure and report outcomes in cost savings, forecast error, and utilization against established baselines.
• Share capacity forecasts with the pod rightsizing system to ensure synchronized scaling of compute and storage.

What we're looking for

• Deep hands-on experience operating AWS storage and databases at scale, specifically Aurora (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and S3.
• Experience in capacity planning and forecasting, including modeling time-series demand and translating traffic into instance counts and sizes.
• Proven track record of rightsizing infrastructure from utilization data without impacting latency or availability.
• Strong Python or Go engineering skills to build automation that safely modifies production infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AWS storage and database pricing, including S3 storage classes and Aurora I/O options (preferred).
• Experience with bursty, event-driven workloads or with Spark, Airflow, or Kubernetes (preferred).
• Ability to work in-person at the Bellevue, WA office at least 3 days per week.
