The Microsoft Windows Security team is seeking a Senior Security Engineer and Principal Security Engineer to secure Windows client and server operating systems. In this hands-on role, you will perform security design reviews, code reviews, penetration testing, and vulnerability research to proactively defend against cybersecurity threats. You will uncover novel attack vectors, develop proof-of-concept mitigations, and build reusable agents and tools to improve the consistency of security reviews. Key responsibilities include identifying vulnerabilities in network protocols and OS features while partnering with product engineering teams to design durable defenses. Required skills include native code experience in C/C++, computer science fundamentals, and experience with fuzzing and exploiting bugs. You will solve complex security problems by identifying architectural risks and devising new protections for Windows products and devices.

What you'll do

  • Identify security vulnerabilities in OS features like network protocols and Microsoft devices.
  • Devise new protections based on a broad and current understanding of security threats.
  • Interact with the external security community and independent security researchers.
  • Partner with product teams to design durable and scalable security defenses.

What we're looking for

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of experience in security or related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of experience in security or related field.
  • Equivalent experience to the degree and years of experience requirements.
  • Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of experience in security or related field (preferred).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of experience in security or related field (preferred).
  • 2+ years identifying vulnerabilities in operating systems and/or native (C/C++) applications (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering or security-related engineering (preferred).
