Security Engineer II The Security Engineer II joins the Windows Security team to protect Windows client and server operating systems from cybersecurity threats. In this hands-on role, you will perform security design reviews, code reviews, penetration testing, and vulnerability research to identify risks in network protocols and core OS features. You will build reusable agents and tools to automate security reviews while developing proof-of-concept mitigations for novel attack vectors. Collaborating with product engineering teams, you will design durable defenses and serve as a security contact for new technologies. The role requires proficiency in native code including C/C++, strong computer science fundamentals, and experience with fuzzing and code auditing. You will address the technical challenge of securing operating system platforms by proactively identifying vulnerabilities and engaging with the external security community to improve overall platform security posture.

What you'll do

  • Perform security design reviews and code audits for Windows features and products.

What we're looking for

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of experience in security.
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of experience in security.
  • Equivalent experience to the specified degrees and years of experience.
  • Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
  • 2+ years identifying vulnerabilities in operating systems and/or native (C/C++) applications (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering or security-related engineering (preferred).
  • Public track record of relevant security research, especially around vulnerability discovery (preferred).
  • Experience exploiting bugs and bypassing security mitigations in operating systems (preferred).
