The Senior Rust Software Developer joins the Integrated Systems & Encryption division to guide the next generation of mission-critical systems. As a key member of a Scrum team, the developer leads the adoption of RUST throughout embedded development, manages the conversion of legacy software, and provides architectural guidance for memory-safe usage. Daily responsibilities include translating requirements into maintainable solutions, performing requirements analysis, and conducting hardware-software integration and formal testing. The role requires technical proficiency in RUST, C/C++, and Python, alongside experience with object-oriented design and UML tools like IBM Rhapsody. The developer solves complex technical problems by applying computer science and mathematical analysis to develop software for target hardware, ensuring operational performance and reliability within a defense technology context.
Lead the adoption and deployment of RUST, including design patterns and tooling, across multiple product lines.
Manage the integration or conversion of legacy software into the RUST programming language.
Provide architectural guidance and best practices for memory-safe RUST usage in embedded development.
Translate complex requirements into working, maintainable software solutions for the Integrated Systems & Encryption division.
Support engineering team members in developing embedded software applications specifically using RUST.
Investigate root causes of complex technical issues and implement solutions independently or with a multi-discipline team.
Develop software test plans, procedures, and other relevant technical documentation.
Utilize modeling tools to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate prototypes.
What we're looking for
U.S. citizenship with an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and at least 6 years of relevant experience.
Graduate degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
At least 1 year of experience developing RUST software for production systems with a deep understanding of the language.
Experience with C/C++ development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience converting C/C++ code to RUST (preferred).
Experience developing RUST software for embedded systems (preferred).
Experience with development of embedded systems (preferred).
Object-oriented design and implementation experience with exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo (preferred).
Experience developing device drivers and Board Support Packages for real-time embedded systems (preferred).
Experience with Information Assurance and/or cryptography (preferred).
Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other SW certification such as DO-178 (preferred).
