What you'll do

Design and build software using AI tools, frameworks, and agentic workflows across the full development lifecycle.
Transition scientific experiments from initial prototypes into reliable, scalable products for Microsoft's portfolio.
Architect solutions with minimal oversight while applying best practices for code organization and maintainability.
Produce high-quality, well-tested, and secure code that adheres to specific design requirements.
Identify and develop "better together" systems and architectures that align multiple research projects.
Navigate ambiguity in a dynamic research environment by establishing tangible milestones to achieve long-term goals.
Contribute to the engineering vision and strategy for the Microsoft Research Americas team.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
At least 4 years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as Python, Rust, C#, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science with 7+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience.
At least 2 years of technical leadership experience defining milestones and executing team deliverables.
Experience working on an engineering team within a research or innovation setting from prototype to production.
Experience with the Microsoft AI stack, including Azure/AI Platform and Copilot tools.
Experience delivering AI-powered products at scale.
Experience with early-stage or first-generation product development.
