JOB TITLE: Senior Lead Software Engineer- AI Engineer As a Senior Lead Software Engineer within Payments Technology, you will lead teams and remain hands-on to build secure, stable, and scalable platform capabilities for an AI-first Developer Portal. You will own the technical direction for an AI-native experience where workflows are exposed as reusable actions for agents and automation. You will build AI-enabled support experiences featuring grounded retrieval and structured tool execution. The role requires 10+ years of experience in distributed systems, proficiency in Java, and expertise in building integration platforms, observability, and cloud-native delivery within regulated environments.

What you'll do

Define architecture patterns for agent-ready workflows, tool schemas, and safe execution within an AI-first developer portal.
Build and operate AI-enabled support experiences featuring assistant-driven workflow automation and contextual troubleshooting signals.
Design and deliver secure external API capabilities using contract-first design, versioning strategies, and consistent error models.
Own authentication and credential workflows for external integrations, including certificate handling and secure onboarding journeys.
Establish engineering standards for AI production systems, including evaluation strategies, telemetry, audit logging, and incident response.
Perform hands-on coding, architecture reviews, and debugging for critical-path platform capabilities.
Partner with security and API owners to drive federated delivery of a unified client experience.
Coach and develop engineers by setting expectations for design rigor, quality, and technical growth.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams and delivering complex platforms or products.
Strong hands-on backend development experience in Java or other modern backend stacks.
Proven expertise building external-facing APIs and integration platforms with contract-first design and security controls.
Strong security fundamentals including OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS, PKI, secrets management, and threat modeling.
Experience building production AI-enabled product capabilities like grounded retrieval, tool execution, and guardrails.
Experience in regulated environments with strong controls, compliance requirements, and reliability expectations.
Developer portal or developer-experience platform experience (preferred).
Experience building workflow/orchestration systems, search and relevance, or cloud-native delivery (preferred).
Prior payments, treasury, or broader financial-services platform experience (preferred).
