TL;DR · Senior Fellow, Energetics Safety

Senior Fellow, Energetics Safety serves as the primary technical authority for the safe manufacture, handling, processing, integration, transportation, storage, shipment, and disposal of energetic materials. This role establishes the technical vision, governance, and standards across all business units to ensure safety during the lifecycle of products like propellant ingredients, solid rocket motors, and missile systems. The individual will oversee facility design, construction, and modernization while ensuring compliance with explosive safety and process safety principles. Key responsibilities include conducting Process Hazard Analyses, reviewing site plans, and leading investigations into energetic incidents. Required expertise includes deep knowledge of DoD 4145.26, DDESB requirements, OSHA Process Safety Management, and DOT regulations. The role requires a technical expert in rocket propulsion and missile production to manage the risks associated with manufacturing and integrating warheads into all-up rounds.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for the safe handling, manufacturing, and disposal of energetic materials.
  • Establish enterprise-wide technical strategies and governance for explosive safety across all business units and programs.
  • Develop and maintain standards for the processing, transportation, storage, and integration of energetic components.
  • Provide technical oversight for the design, construction, and modernization of facilities used to process energetic materials.
  • Lead hazard assessments including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Explosive Safety Site Plans (ESSP).
  • Review and approve facility layouts, equipment installations, and manufacturing processes to ensure safety compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Represent the company during government audits, regulatory inspections, and industry technical working groups.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, Materials Science, Safety, Explosives Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience involving energetic materials, rocket propulsion, missile systems, explosive manufacturing, or defense production operations.
  • Recognized industry expertise in energetic safety with demonstrated enterprise-level leadership across complex aerospace or defense programs.
  • Extensive experience with solid rocket motors, composite and double-base propellants, and all-up-round (AUR) integration.
  • Expertise in facility design for energetic manufacturing, including explosive safety analysis, risk management, and inherently safer design principles.
  • Expert knowledge of DoD 4145.26, DDESB requirements, OSHA Process Safety Management, and DOT hazardous materials regulations.
  • Ability to establish enterprise technical standards and influence executive decision-making regarding capital investment strategies.
  • Active or obtainable DoD Secret Clearance.
