The Senior Engineer, Workday AI Developer joins the Application Development & Maintenance team to help HR identify and deliver high-value opportunities using Workday Extend and Workday’s AI offerings. This role involves turning complex HCM needs into intuitive applications, automated workflows, integrations, and AI-enabled experiences. You will design, build, test, and deploy Workday Extend applications while evaluating Workday-delivered AI capabilities, Sana experiences, and custom agents based on business value and security. Key technologies include Workday Studio, EIBs, REST and SOAP APIs, and Workday Orchestrate. You will also manage permissions, domain security, and data models to ensure solutions operate effectively within the broader Workday architecture. The work focuses on establishing a sustainable foundation for intelligent automation across HR processes, including Recruiting, Compensation, and Payroll.
Design, build, test, deploy, and support Workday Extend applications to simplify complex HR processes.
Evaluate and implement Workday-delivered AI capabilities and custom agents based on business value and security.
Develop proofs of concept and iterate with stakeholders to move validated solutions into production.
Design and implement integrations across Workday and third-party platforms using REST and SOAP APIs.
Configure and manage permissions, domain security, and authentication in partnership with security and legal teams.
Establish technical standards and reusable design patterns for Workday Extend and AI solutions.
Monitor solution adoption, application performance, and API consumption to improve reliability and usability.
Promote responsible AI practices including data protection, transparency, and human-in-the-loop controls.
What we're looking for
Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting Workday Extend applications in a production environment (preferred).
Strong technical understanding of the Workday platform, including business process configuration, security, reporting, and integration architecture (preferred).
Experience with Workday integration technologies such as REST and SOAP APIs, Workday Studio, EIBs, and Workday Orchestrate (preferred).
Proven ability to translate HCM business challenges into practical technical solutions for areas like Recruiting, Compensation, or Payroll (preferred).
Experience implementing Workday AI capabilities, Sana for Workday, or custom agents (preferred).
Familiarity with enterprise AI concepts including large language models, prompt design, and AI governance (preferred).
Experience connecting Workday with enterprise platforms like Microsoft 365, ServiceNow, or Salesforce (preferred).
Relevant Workday certifications in Extend, integrations, platform, security, or HCM functional areas (preferred).
