JOB TITLE: Senior Engineer - Payment Data Services As a Senior Engineer within the Payment Data Services team, you will serve as a specialist supporting the Payments Platform. You will develop and maintain the Enterprise Payment Repository, a consolidated data store for approximately ten payment processing systems, and manage the Payment Orchestration Layer, a real-time decisioning engine for routing traffic and reducing fraud. Your daily responsibilities include designing scalable architectures, leading code reviews, building reliable APIs, and developing data pipelines. You will utilize Kotlin, Java, Micronaut, Kafka, and relational databases while applying microservices and event-driven processing patterns. Additionally, you will explore emerging technologies like LLMs and agentic AI to improve workflows. You must solve complex technical issues involving high-throughput, low-latency systems and ensure data quality across acquisition and storage.

What you'll do

  • Distill abstract architectures into concrete designs and influence their implementation using appropriate software engineering patterns.
  • Design and implement robust, scalable, and high-performance distributed systems independently.
  • Lead code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging at the application level.
  • Build reliable APIs and data pipelines to enable analytics capabilities for business teams.
  • Manage total product financials, forecasting, and service lifecycle management.
  • Provide technical oversight and coach team members through complex or severe technical issues.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning and execute routine and non-routine development and automation activities.
  • Research and apply emerging technologies like agentic AI and LLMs to improve engineering workflows.

What we're looking for

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience, including experience with Java or Kotlin.
  • Experience developing APIs, Kafka Consumers, RDBMS and NoSQL data modeling, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Ability to write and organize code using multiple programming languages, including distributed programming.
  • Ability to deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions for high-throughput and low-latency systems.
  • Ability to design new testing methods and resolve routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance.
  • Practical familiarity with AI tools and technologies such as LLMs, agentic AI, and MCP (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently with cross-functional partners and communicate effectively across teams and geographies.
