Senior Backend Engineer, Java

What you'll do

• Design and build a core agent framework to orchestrate sub-tasks and integrate into human workflows.
• Define contracts for reusable agent skills focusing on API design, versioning, and composability.
• Build evaluation infrastructure to measure and monitor non-deterministic agent behavior and quality.
• Develop systems that enable agents to find records using structured queries, catalogs, and semantic search.
• Produce high-quality production code by integrating AI tools into the daily development workflow.
• Maintain a shared system context of designs and standards to ensure reliable AI performance.
• Critically evaluate human and AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance.

What we're looking for

• You must have 6+ years of experience designing and building large-scale, distributed backend systems.
• You must have experience with API design, versioning, and building systems that other teams build upon.
• You must have strong skills in at least one modern programming language and experience shipping production code.
• You must be able to reason about ambiguous, large-scale systems and communicate trade-offs to a team.
• You must demonstrate an AI-first approach using tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Cursor.
• You must have advanced prompt engineering skills to write precise, structured prompts for reliable AI outputs.
• You must possess a related technical degree.
• Experience with AI agents, LLM systems, evaluation infrastructure, retrieval systems, or migrating automation into APIs is preferred.
