Senior Backend Engineer, Java

What you'll do

• Design and build a core agent framework to host specialized capabilities and orchestrate sub-tasks.
• Define contracts for reusable agent skills focusing on API design, versioning, and composability.
• Build evaluation infrastructure to measure agent quality and catch regressions in non-deterministic outputs.
• Implement systems for agents to find records and context using structured queries and semantic search.
• Develop and ship production-grade software using modern engineering practices and AI-driven development tools.
• Maintain a shared system context repository of designs, constraints, and standards for accurate AI operation.
• Critically evaluate human and AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance.

What we're looking for

• You have 6+ years of experience designing and building large-scale, distributed backend systems.
• You have experience with API design, versioning, and building systems that many teams build on top of.
• You have strong skills in at least one modern programming language and experience shipping production code.
• You have a demonstrated, genuine AI-first approach to engineering using AI tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Cursor.
• You have advanced prompt engineering skills and the ability to write precise, structured prompts.
• You have a related technical degree.
• You have experience building or working with AI agents, LLM-based systems, or evaluation infrastructure for non-deterministic outputs (preferred).
• You have experience with retrieval systems such as semantic search or structured data catalogs (preferred).
