TL;DR · Senior AI/ML Engineer, Robot Localization

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer - Robot Localization, you will join the robotics team to advance localization capabilities for autonomous mobile robots. You will design, implement, and optimize camera- and LiDAR-based localization algorithms while applying statistical estimation theory to improve accuracy, robustness, and runtime performance. Your daily work involves developing pose-graph and factor-graph optimization solutions, investigating state-of-the-art place-recognition techniques for loop-closure detection, and integrating these capabilities with ROS 2 or other robotics middleware. You will collaborate across functions to resolve field issues, perform code reviews, and manage automated testing within a continuous deployment framework. The role focuses on solving the critical problem of enabling robots to understand their position and operate reliably in diverse environments while balancing accuracy against resource constraints like latency and memory on constrained robotic platforms.

What you'll do

  • Develop and improve camera- and LiDAR-based localization algorithms for autonomous mobile robots.
  • Apply statistical estimation theory to enhance localization accuracy, robustness, and runtime performance.
  • Design and implement pose-graph and factor-graph optimization solutions.
  • Optimize localization software to balance accuracy, latency, and resource utilization on robotic platforms.
  • Research state-of-the-art place-recognition techniques to improve loop-closure detection and recovery from drift.
  • Integrate localization capabilities with ROS 2 and other robotics middleware frameworks.
  • Diagnose field issues, reproduce failures, and deliver production-quality software improvements.
  • Support the design, integration, and validation of localization for new products and platforms.

What we're looking for

  • Master’s degree in robotics, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Three or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong expertise in camera- and LiDAR-based localization algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of statistical estimation theory applied to robotics.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and debugging pose-graph and factor-graph optimization.
  • Experience optimizing localization or robotics software for constrained compute, memory, latency, or real-time requirements.
  • Experience developing production-quality software for robotic systems using ROS 2 or other middleware.
  • Experience with software engineering practices including version control, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, or a related technical field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with perception, mapping, path planning, controls, or other core robotics modules (preferred).
  • Experience deploying autonomous mobile robot software in diverse real-world environments (preferred).
