The Robotics Controls Engineer joins the Local Planner Controller team to develop optimization-based planning and control software for the Super Cruise system. This role involves developing vehicle dynamics, planning, and controls software to ensure safe and comfortable behavior. Key responsibilities include implementing and refining optimization and control algorithms for trajectory tracking, constraint handling, and motion execution under real-world limits. The engineer will translate algorithmic ideas into production-quality software while collaborating with cross-functional teams on perception, localization, and safety. Required skills include proficiency in C++ and Python, a strong foundation in optimal control, trajectory optimization, and motion planning, and a deep understanding of classical and modern feedback control theory. The work focuses on solving complex problems in vehicle dynamics and robotics dynamics for advanced driver assistance capabilities.
Develop vehicle dynamics, planning, and controls software for the Super Cruise system.
Implement and refine optimization algorithms for trajectory tracking and motion execution.
Translate algorithmic ideas into robust, production-quality software using C++ and Python.
Conduct technical reviews, code reviews, and validation efforts using software engineering best practices.
Debug end-to-end behavior by integrating solutions with perception, prediction, and localization teams.

What we're looking for
Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD, in Robotics, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
Strong foundation in optimal control, trajectory optimization, motion planning, or numerical optimization.
Strong understanding of classical and modern feedback control theory and techniques.
Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics, robotics dynamics, or related physical system modeling.
Proficiency in C++ and Python for research or production software development.
Demonstrated ability to translate algorithms into reliable software in a collaborative engineering environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
Industry or research experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, ADAS, or safety-critical systems (preferred).
