TL;DR · Robotics Controls Engineer

The Robotics Controls Engineer joins the Local Planner Controller team to develop optimization-based planning and control software for the Super Cruise system. This role focuses on solving complex problems in trajectory optimization, vehicle dynamics, estimation, and closed-loop controls to ensure safe, comfortable vehicle behavior. The engineer will implement and refine algorithms for trajectory tracking, constraint handling, and motion execution while collaborating with cross-functional teams across perception, prediction, and localization. Key technical requirements include a strong foundation in optimal control, motion planning, and numerical optimization, alongside proficiency in C++ and Python. Candidates should possess expertise in classical and modern feedback control theory and physical system modeling. The role addresses the critical challenge of balancing kinematic feasibility and collision avoidance within advanced driver assistance systems to deliver reliable, production-quality software for real-world vehicle environments.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deliver vehicle dynamics, planning, and control software for the Super Cruise system.
  • Implement and refine optimization and control algorithms for trajectory tracking and motion execution.
  • Translate complex algorithmic ideas into robust, production-quality code using C++ and Python.
  • Solve technical problems regarding kinematic feasibility, collision avoidance, and ride comfort.
  • Integrate solutions and debug end-to-end behavior with cross-functional teams in perception, prediction, and localization.
  • Improve software reliability and development velocity through testing, tooling, and continuous integration.
  • Participate in technical reviews, code reviews, and validation efforts to ensure system safety.

What we're looking for

  • Master's degree or PhD in Robotics, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master's degree.
  • Strong foundation in optimal control, trajectory optimization, motion planning, or numerical optimization.
  • Strong understanding of classical and modern feedback control theory and techniques.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics, robotics dynamics, or related physical system modeling.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python for research or production software development.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate algorithms into reliable software in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
