The Research & Development Manager leads the Upstream Chemicals R&D Group within the Technical Advisory Council Leader organization. This role is responsible for managing a team of scientists and technicians while overseeing project management across Flow Assurance, Integrity Management, and Production Optimization. The manager will oversee the entire innovation lifecycle, from initial idea intake through laboratory development, validation, qualification, field trial planning, and commercialization support. Key responsibilities include coordinating R&D operating rhythms, resource planning, risk management, and translating customer needs into actionable project plans for new chemistries and product improvements. Candidates must possess a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science along with extensive experience in upstream chemicals and technical project leadership. The role focuses on solving complex problems in the oil and gas sector by ensuring safe, efficient chemical treatment programs and high-impact technology development.
Manage project execution across Flow Assurance, Integrity Management, and Production Optimization programs.
Oversee the R&D operating rhythm including prioritization, milestone tracking, resource planning, and risk management.
Lead, coach, and develop a team of scientists and technicians to build technical capability.
Translate customer needs and product priorities into actionable research and development project plans.
Drive innovation projects from initial idea through laboratory development, validation, and commercialization.
Manage operational and capital expenditure planning for the R&D group to ensure strategic alignment.
Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Communicate project status, risks, and resource needs clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders.
What we're looking for
Must have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, or a related technical discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience.
Must have a master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Must have demonstrated experience managing technical projects, innovation programs, or product development activities.
Must possess strong project management skills including prioritization, planning, milestone management, risk management, and cross-functional execution.
Must have strong technical understanding of upstream production chemicals, laboratory development, product qualification, or field application requirements.
Must have proven ability to lead, coach, and develop technical personnel.
Must have valid work authorization in the country of employment.
Experience with Flow Assurance, Integrity Management, Production Optimization, or stage-gated technology projects (preferred).
