TL;DR · Quantum Measurement and Modeling Intern

The Quantum Measurement and Modeling Intern joins a research team focused on advancing quantum computing technologies. In this role, you will measure, simulate, and interpret the performance of research quantum processors and associated hardware components. Your daily responsibilities include conducting experimental characterizations such as spectroscopy and time-domain measurements, analyzing data to understand device behavior, and developing simulation-based models to correlate experimental results with theoretical predictions. You may also investigate coupler dynamics, multi-qubit interaction optimization, and coherence performance. The role requires proficiency in Python and experience with RF and microwave electronics, including spectrum analyzers, digitizers, sources, and pulse generators. Preferred skills include familiarity with QuTiP, scqubits, HFSS, or COMSOL. This position addresses the technical challenge of characterizing solid-state qubit platforms to improve hardware performance and reliability within a quantum computing research environment.

What you'll do

  • Measure, simulate, and interpret the performance of research quantum processors and hardware components.
  • Conduct experimental characterizations including spectroscopy and time-domain measurements like coherence time assessments.
  • Analyze data to understand specific device behaviors and performance characteristics.
  • Develop simulation-based models to correlate experimental results with theoretical predictions.
  • Investigate coupler dynamics and multi-qubit interaction optimization.
  • Utilize open-source quantum simulation frameworks such as QuTiP and scqubits for model-to-hardware correlation.
  • Perform research on solid-state qubit platforms and coherence performance relative to qubit frequency.

What we're looking for

  • A Bachelor's degree in Physics or a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with RF and microwave electronics, including spectrum analyzers, digitizers, sources, and pulse generators is required.
  • Coding experience in Python is required.
  • A research background in solid-state qubit platforms is preferred.
  • Fluency in Python packages such as QuTiP or scqubits is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial simulation software like HFSS or COMSOL is preferred.
