As a Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will join the team to develop and assess power-system architectures for utility supply, substations, energy storage, load management, and on-site generation. You will produce technical requirements, design criteria, and engineering recommendations for site-specific and fleet solutions while identifying risks regarding capacity, resiliency, and operability. Your daily work involves performing technical evaluations of grid infrastructure, conducting power-system due diligence for data center sites, and managing utility negotiations. You will perform load-flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and harmonic studies using tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, or EMTP to model interactions between utility systems and high-performance computing loads. The role focuses on solving complex power delivery challenges for large-load infrastructure by integrating battery energy storage systems, microgrids, and emerging technologies into robust, scalable electrical architectures.
Develop and assess power-system architectures for utility supply, substations, energy storage, and large-load infrastructure.
Produce technical requirements, design criteria, and engineering specifications for site-specific and fleet-wide solutions.
Perform technical evaluations of utility capacity, transmission/distribution infrastructure, and grid reliability.
Conduct power-system due diligence and feasibility studies for prospective data center sites.
Design and analyze battery energy storage systems (BESS), including sizing, controls, and lifecycle performance.
Execute load-flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc-flash studies using tools like PSCAD or ETAP.
Evaluate emerging technologies and manage first-of-a-kind qualification plans for new power system components.
Translate complex grid issues into clear technical recommendations for project stakeholders and business partners.
What we're looking for
Must have 10+ years of experience in power systems engineering, utility infrastructure, generation, transmission, distribution, energy storage, or mission-critical infrastructure.
Must possess strong technical knowledge of utility interconnections, substions, protection and controls, and power-system studies.
Must have experience developing, analyzing, or integrating BESS, on-site generation, microgrids, or other behind-the-meter power solutions.
Must understand utility planning, grid constraints, interconnection processes, and large-load customer requirements.
Must be proficient in using power-system modeling tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, EMTP, or equivalent platforms.
Must be able to conduct engineering analyses and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Must be able to work independently on complex problems while collaborating across multidisciplinary project teams.
