Principal Optical Engineer

What you'll do

• Design and develop scalable optical transport solutions to support cloud and AI infrastructure.
• Lead network lifecycle management programs by defining technical milestones, requirements, and documentation.
• Translate high-level network architectures into detailed, multi-layer solution designs.
• Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for complex network incidents and root-cause analysis.
• Develop scripts and automation to streamline non-traditional operational tasks and improve efficiency.
• Provide technical coaching and mentorship to junior and senior engineering staff.
• Evaluate new vendor hardware and technologies through participation in RFQ and RFP processes.

What we're looking for

• Candidates must have 6 to 10+ years of experience in network infrastructure engineering specifically in optics and optical systems.
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required, with a Master's degree preferred.
• Preferred skills include experience with DWDM, ROADM, EDFA, Raman amplification, OTDR, and optical spectrum analyzers.
• Experience with coherent optics, digital coherent optics (DCO), 400G ZR, and 800G ZR is preferred.
• Familiarity with RFI/RFP/RFx processes, First Office Application (FOA), and L-band optical systems is preferred.
• Experience in datacenter engineering cabling is preferred.
• Product lifecycle management and testing and qualification backgrounds are considered a plus.
• Python coding and scripting skills are considered a big plus.
