The Principal Network Architect serves as the subject matter expert for architecting and implementing the global network, including the applications and services running on top of it. This role involves engaging with stakeholders and application teams to translate conceptual designs into physical production environments while mentoring team members on network engineering and support. Key responsibilities include researching tools to improve performance, availability, and cost of ownership while managing hosting, resiliency, and data center strategies. The position requires expertise in routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, as well as Layer 2 protocols, SD-WAN, and transport technologies like MPLS and DWDM. Candidates must possess deep knowledge of security technologies including IPsec, VPNs, and NGFW platforms like Palo Alto or Check Point, alongside experience with Cisco, Juniper, and Arista hardware.
Architect and implement the global network, including all underlying applications and services.
Translate conceptual designs into physical designs that meet capacity, availability, and performance requirements.
Research and evaluate new tools and technologies to modernize network functions and lower costs.
Provide technical design guidance and strategic leadership to engineering and application teams.
Serve as the ultimate technical escalation point for complex network issues and infrastructure problems.
Resolve global network trouble and provide on-call support for escalated issues when needed.
Document designs, solutions, and position papers on relevant technologies and strategies.
Participate in the Architecture Review Board to align network initiatives with business outcomes.
What we're looking for
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or an equivalent four-year technical degree.
15+ years of experience managing and designing solutions within an IP network with a four-year Bachelor of Science degree.
20+ years of relevant experience with IP networks and services including DNS, NAC, security, IPS, load balancing, and data center strategies.
10+ years of experience with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, plus experience with SD-WAN.
10+ years of experience with Layer 2 protocols, WAN/LAN transport technologies, and vendor fabric interconnect technologies.
10+ years of working knowledge of security technologies, network control protocols, and experience with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and Arista platforms.
10+ years of working knowledge of core network services such as DNS, DHCP, load balancing, and application solution design.
