TL;DR · Network Architect

JOB TITLE: Network Architect The Network Architect joins the team to provide technical leadership for the design, integration, and evolution of secure multi-cloud networking capabilities supporting the U.S. Air Force Cloud One Next contract. This role serves as a senior technical authority, developing common networking patterns across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Key responsibilities include designing enterprise architectures for virtual networks, routing, segmentation, and private connectivity while establishing technical standards and automation patterns. The architect will utilize Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible within GitLab-based workflows to manage complex environments. The work involves solving technical challenges related to secure hybrid connectivity, Zero Trust principles, and high availability across Department of the Air Force networks and mission systems to ensure performance and compliance in regulated DoD environments.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain enterprise network architectures across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI.
  • Develop reusable reference architectures and technical standards to ensure consistency across different cloud providers.
  • Architect secure hybrid and cross-cloud connectivity using VPNs, private circuits, and software-defined networking.
  • Define enterprise routing, IP address management, and network segmentation strategies for DoD environments.
  • Implement Zero Trust networking principles, including firewall policies, encryption, and microsegmentation.
  • Provision network infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Establish monitoring, flow logging, and telemetry approaches for network observability across heterogeneous clouds.
  • Review proposed network changes to ensure alignment with security requirements and operational constraints.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 12–15 years of prior relevant experience in network architecture or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Extensive experience designing and operating enterprise-scale network architectures including routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, and load balancing.
  • Demonstrated experience designing cloud network architectures in at least two of the following: AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, CIDR planning, and IP address management.
  • Experience designing secure hybrid cloud connectivity using technologies such as AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, Google Cloud Interconnect, or OCI FastConnect.
  • Experience implementing network infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, and Git-based configuration management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance (preferred).
  • Advanced cloud networking certifications such as AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Professional networking certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent advanced network architecture certification (preferred).
