The Principal Network Administrator joins the IT Infrastructure and Operations organization within the Chief Information and Digital Office. This role is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of LAN, WAN, and VPN systems while planning, designing, configuring, and installing network hardware to meet specific customer requirements. The individual will manage routers, firewalls, switches, and WAN accelerators, provide technical expertise on hardware and software interconnection, and propose cost-saving solutions based on future needs. Key responsibilities include creating operational documentation, performing regular monitoring, and coordinating third-party maintenance for equipment. Required skills include experience with Cisco hardware, network analysis tools like SolarWinds or Wireshark, and knowledge of DISA STIGs. The role addresses the technical challenge of ensuring secure, integrated communications and infrastructure reliability within a complex corporate environment involving systems integration and capacity analysis.
Maintain smooth operation of LAN, WAN, and VPN systems.
Plan, design, configure, and install network hardware based on customer requirements.
Manage and maintain routers, firewalls, switches, and WAN accelerators.
Propose cost-effective solutions to management to meet future communication needs.
Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation and operational instructions.
Perform regular monitoring and analysis for short- and long-range system planning.
Coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment and select hardware/software packages.
What we're looking for
Must have an Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience, Bachelor’s and 5 years, Master’s and 3 years, or a High School diploma and 9 years of experience.
Must possess a current U.S. Government Secret level security clearance with a closed investigation within the last 6 years or enrollment in DoD CEP.
Must hold a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) or be able to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Must have experience with Cisco hardware, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Information Systems related field.
Preferred: Active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI level security clearance.
Preferred: Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE.
