What you'll do

  • Perform full-cycle design for spacecraft systems including requirement derivation, 3D CAD modeling, and material selection.
  • Design and test mechanical components such as deployment mechanisms, antennas, solar panels, and pressure vessels.
  • Develop and test ground support equipment (MGSE) to facilitate high-rate manufacturing and system integration.
  • Execute rigorous environmental testing including vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, and other spaceflight qualification campaigns.
  • Lead rapid prototyping efforts using 3D printing and machining to iterate on hardware designs quickly.
  • Conduct cross-discipline design reviews and perform root cause analysis to support production operations.
  • Mentor the engineering team and establish mechanical design standards for high-reliability spacecraft components.

What we're looking for

  • Must have 15+ years of professional experience in hardware product development.
  • Must have experience designing space flight hardware.
  • Experience in ground-up system design and proficiency in any 3D CAD software.
  • Hands-on experience in assembly, prototyping, testing, and performance characterization of mechanisms for 0g environments.
  • Experience designing small mechanisms, components, and systems with a focus on simplicity and reliability.
  • Familiarity with launch environments, range safety, and spaceflight environmental testing (NASA-GEVS or equivalent).
  • Basic understanding of PCB layout requirements to meet space flight mechanical and manufacturing standards.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and flying CubeSat spacecraft in LEO through GEO environments (preferred).
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a classified environment (preferred).
