TL;DR · Principal Hardware Engineer, DC/DC Power

Principal Hardware Engineer, DC/DC Power joins the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering team to architect and validate DC-DC power delivery systems for compute, storage, and AI platforms. This role involves leading the design and simulation of multiphase regulators, point-of-load converters, and high-power ASIC module integration while providing technical mentorship to engineers and cross-functional partners. The engineer will manage risk mitigation, conduct EMI, thermal, and reliability testing, and collaborate with ODMs to qualify components. Key technical requirements include expertise in power converter control theory, PWM converters such as Buck or resonant LLC types, and proficiency with tools like LTspice, Simplis, Cadence, or Altium. The role addresses the critical challenge of designing high-quality, scalable power solutions for hyperscale data center infrastructure, ensuring reliable energy delivery across complex cloud hardware environments.

What you'll do

  • Architect and validate DC-DC power delivery systems for compute, storage, and AI platforms.
  • Lead the design and simulation of multiphase regulators, point-of-load converters, and high-power ASIC module integration.
  • Develop power solution concepts while evaluating technical trade-offs, risks, and benefits.
  • Oversee and review power development activities to ensure alignment with requirements and risk management.
  • Drive root cause analysis and resolution for complex power issues in production and development environments.
  • Collaborate with ODMs and suppliers to qualify power components and systems.
  • Conduct EMI, thermal, and reliability testing across global deployments.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and cross-functional partners.

What we're looking for

  • A Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or related field and 3+ years of experience, a Master's and 6+ years, or a Bachelor's and 8+ years.
  • Equivalent experience to the specified degree and year combinations is acceptable.
  • Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other required security screenings.
  • Experience in DC-DC power system design and validation (10+ years for MS, 5+ for PhD) (preferred).
  • Experience in multiphase regulation, point-of-load conversion, and system-level integration (10+ years for MS, 5+ for PhD) (preferred).
  • Proficiency with design/simulation tools such as LTspice, Simplis, Simetrix, Cadence, or Altium (preferred).
  • Experience in hyperscale data center infrastructure, ODM/JDM development, and power system integration in CSP environments (preferred).
  • Familiarity with power supply qualification standards, PCB layout for low-noise conversion, and digital bus designs like I2C/PMBus (preferred).
