Principal Engineer, Storage Product Standards

What you'll do

• Propose, draft, and review technical specifications and proposals within NVMe and OCP working groups.
• Serve in high-profile leadership positions such as Committee Chair or Board Member within NVMe, OCP, or SNIA.
• Advocate for Samsung's technical and strategic interests to align industry standards with core product capabilities.
• Translate hyperscaler requirements from major cloud vendors into actionable features for internal R&D teams.
• Identify and secure patents for proprietary storage technologies during the early phases of the standardization process.
• Jointly develop next-generation storage architectures and custom form factors with architects from major cloud providers.
• Monitor and report on competitor strategies, technical directions, and voting patterns within standardization committees.
• Create customer-facing technical whitepapers and education materials for ecosystem and standard activities.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field with 20+ years experience.
• Master’s Degree with 18+ years experience or a Ph.D. with 15+ years experience.
• Minimum of 10+ years of direct experience in the storage industry, including legacy HDD and modern NAND flash/SSD development.
• Verified track record of strategic influence, technical contributions, or committee leadership within core storage industry bodies or consortiums.
• Proven experience designing or standardizing storage solutions that satisfy OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD Specifications for major cloud vendors.
• Deep technical knowledge of PCIe/NVMe protocols, FDP, telemetry, and legacy enterprise storage protocols like SAS/SATA/SCSI.
• Practical understanding of SNIA frameworks for storage management, data security, and data lifecycle tracking.
• Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills to lead technical debates and author formal specifications.
