Principal Engineer, Platform

What you'll do

• Define how AI agents can safely and effectively interact with platform data and internal systems.
• Shape the technical vision and architecture for the company's automation platform to ensure scalability.
• Design architectures for combining multiple large-scale datasets into a unified, accessible data foundation.
• Manage the architecture and operational models of large databases, including sharding, replication, and scaling strategies.
• Drive execution on high-priority initiatives through hands-on technical contributions, design reviews, and prototyping.
• Identify and resolve scalability, reliability, observability, and performance bottlenecks across critical systems.
• Lead complex cross-team projects that advance the long-term platform architecture and engineering standards.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years experience operating at Staff, Principal, Lead Engineer, or equivalent level driving technical strategy across multiple teams.
• Proven track record leading multi-quarter technical initiatives spanning 3+ engineering teams to improve scalability and reliability.
• 5+ years of experience operating production systems where relational database architecture and high availability were critical concerns.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems including consistency, availability, partition tolerance, replication, and sharding.
• Demonstrated success influencing technical direction without direct managerial authority.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience with analytical databases such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, or Snowflake is preferred.
• Experience designing systems that safely expose capabilities and data to AI agents is preferred.
