Principal Engineer, Enterprise COBOL Application

What you'll do

• Own the roadmap by defining, prioritizing, and managing the backlog for the COBOL application.
• Write, test, and deploy COBOL code to add new features and enhance system capabilities.
• Balance maintenance of existing logic with engineering new scalable capabilities for modern testing frameworks.
• Use MSD DevOps tools to analyze, build, debug, manage, and validate applications.
• Ensure applications remain stable and integrated with modern CI/CD pipelines and middleware.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for other teams regarding COBOL integration and modernization.
• Establish processes for community contributions from multiple internal organizations.

What we're looking for

• 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a focus on enterprise COBOL development in IBM mainframe or emulation environments.
• A Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 10+ years of related experience.
• High proficiency in building applications that leverage mainframe subsystems such as Db2, IMS, CICS, IDMS, and Datacom.
• Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Experience using Source Code Management tools including Endevor and GitHub.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical presentations and documentation.
• Experience in Agile software development methodology.
• Ability to perform structural debugging and data-driven analysis.
