As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, Gateways & Customer Hardware (Starlink), you will join the Starlink team to take full ownership of developing millions of customer-facing products, including dishes, user terminals, and Wi-Fi routers. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and verification of entire electrical systems, as well as next-generation gateways designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions while maintaining reliable communication. Your daily work involves driving system trades, requirements capture, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and hardware bring-up. You will collaborate with silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to move products from concept to production. Key technical skills include experience with mixed-signal circuit boards, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz Serdes, DRAM interfaces, I2C, SPI, and power supply components. Proficiency in Python and C/C++ is required to develop tools for analyzing data collected in the lab and on orbit.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics for satellite communication.
  • Own the full electrical system design, implementation, and verification for customer-facing products.
  • Manage the entire hardware lifecycle from initial concept and component selection to full-scale production.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and hardware bring-up for complex designs.
  • Develop and optimize next-generation gateway hardware to withstand harsh environmental conditions.
  • Debug and troubleshoot electronics during production, satellite integration, and flight phases.
  • Create physical and digital tools to analyze data from orbit and lab testing to improve designs.
  • Solve complex engineering problems by challenging assumptions and finding simplified solutions.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
  • 8+ years of professional experience designing circuits, electronic products, or hardware.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar engineering degree (preferred).
  • 10+ years of professional experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable products (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience designing mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production using processors, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz Serdes, DRAM interfaces, I2C, SPI, op-amps, converters, and power supply components (preferred).
  • 10+ years of professional experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of computers and programming languages such as Python or C/C++ (preferred).
  • U.S. citizen.
