TL;DR · Principal Digital Architect, Robotics Platform

The Principal Digital Architect - Robotics Platform joins a team focused on building the software foundation for autonomous machines. This role is responsible for defining and delivering the end-to-end software architecture of the robotics platform, including middleware, runtime, inter-process communication, platform services, and compute architecture. The architect will establish standards, APIs, and reference designs to enable teams across autonomy, controls, machine learning, simulation, and data to build and deploy faster. Key technical requirements include experience with ROS 2 or DDS, edge and cloud compute architecture, GPU accelerated compute, and containerized deployment. The role addresses the complex challenge of construction autonomy by creating a scalable infrastructure that allows machines to perceive environments and make informed decisions. Essential skills include analytical thinking, requirement analysis, and expertise in Agile SDLC within public cloud ecosystems including CI/CD and test automation.

What you'll do

  • Define and deliver the end-to-end software architecture for the robotics platform including middleware, runtime, and inter-process communication.
  • Design onboard, edge, and cloud compute architectures to support real-time execution and resource management for autonomous machines.
  • Establish standard APIs, reference designs, and technical roadmaps to enable multiple engineering teams to build and deploy faster.
  • Develop the technical infrastructure including specific databases, programming languages, and testing approaches to solve business problems.
  • Lead the evaluation and deployment of new technologies to enhance existing digital capabilities across autonomy, machine learning, and controls.
  • Translate complex business requirements into detailed technical application designs and architectural blueprints.
  • Govern technology decisions and provide technical direction across multiple engineering organizations to ensure platform consistency.
  • Manage the integration of perception, planning, and control systems at the software layer to deliver reliable autonomous behavior.

What we're looking for

  • Experience architecting robot software platforms including middleware, runtime, inter-process communication, and platform services like ROS 2 or DDS.
  • Experience defining onboard, edge, and cloud compute architecture for production robotic systems using GPU acceleration and containerized deployment.
  • Ability to define APIs, reference designs, and standards to enable autonomy, machine learning, controls, and simulation teams.
  • Deep understanding of integrating perception, planning, and controls at the software layer for reliable autonomous behavior.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic leadership by defining architectural roadmaps and governing technology decisions across multiple organizations.
  • Progressive career in software engineering and architecture with a focus on robotics or platform software at a senior or principal level.
  • Strong understanding of Agile SDLC in public cloud ecosystems, including CI/CD, test automation, and resource optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills to mentor, coach, and persuade others regarding new technologies and technical solutions.
