As a Principal Application Software Engineer within the Oracle Government Defense & Intelligence team, you will design, build, and operate secure application services for sovereign and government cloud environments. You will serve as a technical lead for AI-enabled software capabilities, focusing on secure architecture, governed data integrations, evaluation tooling, and production-ready workflows. Your daily responsibilities include leading the implementation of features, APIs, and integrations while conducting code reviews to ensure quality and security. You will troubleshoot complex service-to-service issues and define engineering patterns for reliability and observability. The role requires expertise in programming, scripting, databases, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containerized environments like Kubernetes. You will solve critical problems regarding secure data access and infrastructure in regulated, classified, or air-gapped environments to ensure evidence-grounded outputs for mission-critical government workloads.
Lead the design and implementation of scalable features, APIs, and integrations for secure cloud environments.
Develop technical documentation, implementation plans, and specifications for new application enhancements.
Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, security, and operational readiness across multiple software areas.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving service-to-service integrations and production systems.
Design and implement AI-enabled capabilities including workflow orchestration and evaluation tooling.
Define engineering patterns for monitoring, testing, and operating AI-enabled software in restricted environments.
Lead technical designs for governed access to operational data sources to ensure evidence-grounded outputs.
Mentor engineers on secure development practices, observability, and debugging for sovereign cloud systems.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI with Poly security clearance at the time of hire.
Must have 11 years of software development experience, or a relevant degree combined with 3 to 7 years of experience depending on the level of education.
Requires at least 6 years of experience with programming and/or scripting languages.
Requires at least 4 years of experience working with databases.
Must have experience designing, building, testing, and operating distributed application services.
Must demonstrate experience in code review, automation, quality assurance, secure development practices, and technical mentorship.
Preferred: 3 years of experience with cloud platforms like OCI, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field and 7 years of software development.
