As a Principal Application Software Engineer within the Oracle Government Defense & Intelligence team, you will design, build, and operate secure application services for sovereign and government cloud environments. You will lead the development of features, APIs, and integrations while managing complex technical designs, implementation plans, and documentation. Your daily responsibilities include conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, and resolving intricate production issues across distributed systems. To succeed, you must possess expertise in programming and scripting languages, databases, RESTful APIs, microservices, service-oriented architecture, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, Linux, observability, and incident response. You will solve critical problems involving secure, scalable infrastructure within regulated, classified, or air-gapped environments. This role requires a high level of technical leadership to ensure operational readiness and quality across all application components in mission-critical cloud workloads.

What you'll do

Lead the design and implementation of features, APIs, and integrations for secure, scalable architectures.
Develop technical documentation, implementation plans, and specifications for new application features.
Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, maintainability, security, and operational readiness across multiple areas.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving applications, APIs, service-to-service interactions, and production environments.
Drive architecture decisions regarding scalability strategies, performance optimization, and periodic technical reviews.
Implement comprehensive testing, observability, monitoring, error logging, and debugging practices.
Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring processes and the establishment of technical standards.

What we're looking for

U.S. Citizenship and active TS/SCI with Poly security clearance are required at hire.
11 years of software development experience, or a relevant degree combined with 3 to 7 years of experience.
At least 6 years of experience with programming and/or scripting languages.
At least 4 years of experience with databases.
Experience designing, building, testing, and operating distributed application services.
Demonstrated experience with code review, automation, quality assurance, secure development practices, and technical mentorship.
3 years of experience with cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (preferred).
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field and 7 years of software development.
