TL;DR · Senior Performance Engineering QA Manager

Performance Engineering - Sr. QA Manager The Performance Engineering - Sr. QA Manager leads a Performance Engineering Center of Excellence to ensure the reliability and scalability of high-transaction healthcare platforms, specifically EMR and EHR systems. This technical leadership role involves designing workload models, identifying bottlenecks across microservices and APIs, and establishing quality metrics for release readiness. The successful candidate will manage a team of engineers while performing hands-on work including scripting in Java, Groovy, or Python to build test utilities. Key technologies include JMeter, LoadRunner, k6, Gatling, NeoLoad, Selenium, Playwright, and RestAssured. Additionally, the role requires expertise in Dynatrace for APM, Jenkins or Azure DevOps for CI/CD integration, and experience with databases like Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. The position addresses critical performance challenges within complex, cloud-native architectures to ensure stable clinical transaction patterns and high-volume workflow stability.

What you'll do

  • Lead the Performance Engineering Center of Excellence by defining standards, tooling strategies, and governance practices across product lines.
  • Design realistic workload models, performance baselines, and SLAs using production metrics and clinical transaction patterns.
  • Execute load, stress, spike, soak, and capacity testing to identify bottlenecks in APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
  • Partner with engineering and DevOps teams to provide data-driven recommendations for resolving system performance issues.
  • Define automation coverage targets and guide the development of scalable frameworks using tools like Selenium or Playwright.
  • Establish and track quality metrics including reliability, scalability, security, and defect escape rates.
  • Manage release readiness by conducting governance reviews, providing go/no-go recommendations, and communicating risks to stakeholders.
  • Improve QA productivity by reducing test cycle times, improving MTTR, and stabilizing testing environments.

What we're looking for

  • 12+ years of progressive Quality Engineering or Performance Engineering experience is required.
  • 4+ years of formal people management or engineering leadership experience managing teams of five or more is required.
  • Ability to personally design, script, execute, and analyze performance tests using tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, k6, Gatling, or NeoLoad.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting with Java, Groovy, Python, or equivalent languages for test automation and utility development.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed architectures including microservices, APIs, containers, and Java Spring Boot services.
  • Experience integrating performance validation into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Expertise in system performance tuning across JVM internals, database query tuning, and infrastructure utilization.
  • Experience with healthcare technology, EMR/EHR systems, or HL7/FHIR standards (preferred).
