JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Engineer, Payload Module Lead
The Senior Systems Engineer, Payload Module Lead joins the Maneuver Dominance team to lead the design, integration, verification, and validation of specific weapon or payload modules for the Thunder autonomous attack rotorcraft. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team of six to eight engineers across software, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to drive technical execution from requirements through fielding. Key responsibilities include developing system architecture designs, managing stores management systems, and owning fire control logic, safety interlocks, and separation analysis. The candidate must utilize skills in C++, MATLAB, Python, and PERL while working with MIL STD 1553 and 1760 interfaces. The work addresses the technical challenge of integrating weapons and sensors into a compact airframe operating in a contested electromagnetic spectrum.
Lead the design, integration, verification, and validation of specific weapon or payload modules for the Thunder platform.
Provide technical direction and leadership to a multidisciplinary team of 6 to 8 software, electrical, and mechanical engineers.
Develop system architecture designs, generate technical requirements, and manage program plans, estimates, and schedules.
Drive the implementation of MIL STD 1553 and 1760 interfaces, structural mounts, and support systems like wiring and cooling.
Own the stores management system (SMS) and fire control logic, including safety interlocks and state machines.
Conduct safe separation analysis and testing for trajectory clearance, jettison envelopes, and flight test support.
Manage daily agile execution including sprint planning, backlog management, and technical decision-making.
Coordinate with customers, contractors, and external suppliers to resolve module-specific integration issues.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline with 9, 7, or experience respectively.
Experience in software programming or embedded systems using C++, MATLAB, Python, or PERL scripting.
Experience integrating weapons, payloads, or avionics onto aircraft and experience with weapon or tactical datalinks.
Familiarity with air to air weapons, MIL STD 1553, and logical Interface Control Documents.
Experience directly leading or technically directing a small multidisciplinary engineering team across software, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
Experience designing or validating safety critical state machines and interlock logic for arm and fire sequencing.
U.S. Person status (citizenship or lawful permanent residency) required for ITAR and export controlled work.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance.
