JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Engineer - Payload Module Lead
The Maneuver Dominance team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, verification, and validation of specific weapon or payload modules for the Thunder autonomous attack rotorcraft. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of six to eight engineers across software, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to drive technical execution from requirements through fielding. Key responsibilities include developing architecture designs, managing agile execution, and owning stores management systems and fire control logic. You will utilize skills in C++, MATLAB, Python, and PERL to implement MIL STD 1553 and 1760 interfaces. The role addresses the technical challenge of integrating weapons and sensors onto a compact airframe operating in a contested electromagnetic spectrum while ensuring safe separation and trajectory clearance.
Lead the design, integration, verification, and validation of specific weapon or payload modules for the Thunder platform.
Provide technical direction and leadership to a multidisciplinary team of 6 to 8 software, electrical, and mechanical engineers.
Develop system architecture designs, generate technical requirements, and manage program plans, estimates, and schedules.
Drive the implementation of MIL STD 1553 and 1760 interfaces, structural mounts, and support systems like wiring and cooling.
Own the stores management system (SMS) and fire control logic, including safety interlocks and state machines.
Perform and own safe separation analysis and testing for trajectory clearance and jettison envelopes.
Manage daily agile execution including sprint planning, backlog management, and technical decision-making.
Coordinate directly with customers, contractors, and external suppliers to resolve module-specific integration issues.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline with the required years of progressive experience.
Software programming or embedded systems experience with familiarity in C++, MATLAB, Python, and PERL scripting.
Experience integrating weapons, payloads, or avionics onto aircraft, including familiarity with air to air weapons and MIL STD 1553.
Experience with weapon or tactical datalinks and logical Interface Control Documents.
Experience directly leading or technically directing a small multidisciplinary engineering team across software, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
Experience designing or validating safety critical state machines and interlock logic for arm and fire sequencing.
U.S. Person status (citizenship or lawful permanent residency) required for ITAR and export controlled work.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret clearance.
