Lead, Systems Engineer (Mission Payload) joins the engineering team to support the development of a space-based Electro-Optical/Infrared sensor system. This role provides technical leadership across the system lifecycle, focusing on requirements development, interface definition, and system-level analysis. The successful candidate will manage requirements traceability, develop Interface Control Documents, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including optics, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering. Key responsibilities include performing performance and risk analyses, supporting technical reviews like PDR and CDR, and mentoring other engineers. Required skills include systems engineering rigor for complex aerospace or remote sensing systems. Preferred technical competencies include experience with DOORS, Jama, or similar requirements tools, and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies using Cameo, MagicDraw, or Capella to solve complex spacecraft-to-payload interface challenges.
Lead systems engineering efforts for a space-based EO/IR mission payload across all lifecycle phases.
Develop, decompose, and manage system and subsystem requirements based on program and customer needs.
Establish and maintain requirements traceability from mission objectives through system architecture and verification methods.
Define and manage internal and external interfaces, including the development of Interface Control Documents.
Perform system-level analyses to assess performance, functionality, risk, operability, and requirement compliance.
Lead technical reviews such as SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, and TRR.
Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans for engineering and program leadership.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers on systems engineering methods and tools.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Graduate degree and 7 years; or 13 years of experience without a degree.
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Experience with space-based EO/IR systems, remote sensing payloads, or electro-optical mission systems (preferred).
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama, or similar platforms (preferred).
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, Capella, or similar (preferred).
Experience serving as an Integrated Product Team Lead or in another technical leadership role (preferred).
