The Metadata and Catalog Specialist will join the CMM Data Modernization and Governance team to support the Case Management Modernization program. This role involves implementing and operating metadata management, business glossaries, data catalogs, and data lineage capabilities to support a modern cloud-based solution for federal courts. The specialist will establish metadata standards, manage governance platforms, and integrate metadata from source systems, databases, data warehouses, data lakes, APIs, and ETL/ELT pipelines. Key responsibilities include configuring automated metadata harvesting, maintaining domain-level business glossaries, and developing dashboards to measure catalog adoption. The position requires expertise in Data Lake, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Data, and Metadata Management. The work focuses on making enterprise data discoverable, well-defined, and traceable to enable effective governance, data quality, and self-service data use across the organization.

What you'll do

  • Implement and maintain metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage capabilities.
  • Configure and administer data governance, catalog, metadata, and lineage platforms.
  • Establish metadata standards, naming conventions, and management practices for enterprise data assets.
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise and domain-level business glossary.
  • Integrate metadata from source systems, databases, data lakes, APIs, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Configure metadata ingestion, scanning, classification, tagging, and automated harvesting capabilities.
  • Implement data ownership, stewardship, certification, and approval workflows within governance platforms.
  • Develop dashboards and reports measuring catalog adoption, metadata completeness, and lineage coverage.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of related experience.
  • MA/MS degree with 5+ years of general experience in information systems and 7+ years of specialized experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting enterprise data governance programs.
  • Experience translating governance policy into practical operational processes in delivery environments.
  • Experience governing high-sensitivity or regulated data with clear compliance expectations.
  • Experience with access management and operationalizing privacy requirements.
  • Experience partnering with security, governance, and engineering teams to implement compliant data sharing.
  • Strong process mapping, documentation, and business analysis skills.
  • Excellent facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including development of training and change management materials.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience in Federal Government or regulated environments (preferred).
  • Experience with enterprise data governance/catalog platforms (preferred).
  • Experience with enterprise data governance frameworks and operating models (preferred).
  • Data management certification (preferred).
