The Manager Programs 2 - Advanced Design and Producibility joins the Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems team to support Research & Advanced Design survivability programs. This role integrates manufacturing strategy, producibility, and affordability into early survivability technology development and system design. The manager will influence early design decisions, define manufacturing strategies, evaluate producibility trades, and support proposal development to ensure designs are aligned with credible build, integration, test, cost, and schedule approaches. Key responsibilities include managing Survivability CRAD and IRAD development programs, overseeing engineering staff, and developing research roadmaps. The position requires expertise in aerospace system development, aircraft hardware design, survivability design integration, and production readiness. Core competencies include design-for-manufacturing, model-based definition, additive manufacturing, and conducting affordability analysis to bridge the gap between concept development and program execution.
Manage a diverse set of Survivability CRAD and IRAD development programs from inception through completion.
Define and integrate survivability designs and systems for future and emerging vehicle systems.
Influence early design decisions to improve producibility, affordability, and manufacturing feasibility.
Develop and execute Research & Technology roadmaps to support internal and external customer objectives.
Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, operating budgets, and contract specifications.
Serve as the primary interface with external customers and national experts to develop new business.
Manage engineering staff, including staffing, employee growth, and performance appraisals.
Brief senior leadership on technical strategy, producibility risks, and manufacturing trade studies.
What we're looking for
Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science in a STEM discipline with 7 years; or a PhD with 4 years.
Active U.S. government Secret clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Experience leading technical teams, IPTs, cross-functional teams, or matrixed engineering/manufacturing organizations.
Experience supporting air vehicle or missile survivability requirements through design, integration, manufacturing planning, production readiness, proposal development, or transition to execution.
Experience developing or evaluating manufacturing strategies, build plans, assembly approaches, tooling concepts, make/buy strategies, cost drivers, schedule assumptions, business cases, or production-readiness plans.
Experience supporting proposal development, capture strategy, basis-of-estimate development, price-to-win analysis, affordability analysis, production planning, investment planning, or early technical baseline definition.
