TL;DR · Programs Manager, Advanced Design and Producibility

Manager Programs 2 - Advanced Design and Producibility joins the Research & Advanced Design team to integrate manufacturing strategy, producibility, affordability, and business-case realism into early survivability technology development and system design. This role serves as a technical bridge between concept development and program execution, ensuring that production readiness and cost drivers are treated as primary design variables rather than downstream activities. The manager oversees a diverse set of Survivability CRAD and IRAD programs, managing engineering staff while coordinating proposal development, contract negotiations, and technology roadmaps. Key responsibilities include evaluating manufacturing feasibility, assembly efficiency, and tooling concepts for aerospace systems. The role requires expertise in survivability design integration, production planning, and cross-functional leadership across supply chain, quality, and test organizations to ensure that emerging vehicle systems are technically credible, manufacturable, and scalable for future deployment.

What you'll do

  • Integrate manufacturing strategy, producibility, and affordability into early survivability technology development and system design.
  • Influence early design decisions by evaluating manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and production scalability.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of Survivability CRAD and IRAD programs including cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Lead engineering staff through staffing, growth initiatives, and performance appraisals.
  • Develop and execute Research & Technology roadmaps to meet internal and external customer objectives.
  • Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, operating budgets, and contract negotiations.
  • Act as a technical bridge between concept development and program execution to mitigate production risks.
  • Identify new business opportunities and expand product lines through engagement with customers and national experts.

What we're looking for

  • Must have an active U.S. government Secret clearance or higher.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 9 years of experience, Master’s with 7 years, or PhD with 4 years.
  • Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional teams, or matrixed engineering and manufacturing organizations.
  • Experience supporting air vehicles or missiles with survivability requirements through design, integration, and production readiness.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing system designs to improve producibility, affordability, manufacturability, and execution risk.
  • Experience developing manufacturing strategies, build plans, cost drivers, business cases, or production-readiness plans.
  • Experience supporting proposal development, capture strategy, basis-of-estimate development, and early technical baseline definition.
