The Manager, Artificial Intelligence Governance leads the artificial intelligence governance program for the Sutter Health System Office-Valley. This role involves leading a team of AI governance analysts to set the target operating model, policy framework, and program priorities within a changing regulatory and technical landscape. Daily responsibilities include performing high-complexity reviews, drafting standards, and prioritizing a high-volume queue of AI use cases while aligning clinical, technical, legal, and privacy stakeholders. The position requires expertise in healthcare data governance, model risk management, and machine learning concepts like bias, drift, and hallucination. Key technical competencies include familiarity with NIST AI RMF, CHAI Assurance Standards, ISO/IEC 42001, HIPAA, and FDA SaMD guidance. The role ensures governance requirements are integrated across the model development and monitoring lifecycle for healthcare AI.
Lead the artificial intelligence governance program by setting the target operating model and policy framework.
Manage a team of AI governance analysts to perform high-complexity reviews and draft standards.
Prioritize a high-volume queue of AI use cases and make day-to-day operational decisions.
Integrate governance requirements across the model development and monitoring lifecycle with data science leadership.
Convene and align diverse stakeholder groups including clinical, legal, privacy, and security teams.
Design and operate practical, auditable governance processes that minimize friction for delivery teams.
Translate complex AI risk concepts for executive, clinical, and front-line audiences.
Coach and develop staff in both technical and governance/regulatory domains.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Management, Public Health, Health Administration, Law, or related field (equivalent experience accepted).
Recent relevant experience.
Experience in healthcare data governance, AI/ML governance, model risk management, or regulatory compliance.
Experience leading or coordinating cross-functional governance, risk, or compliance programs.
Direct experience supporting AI/ML or advanced analytics programs.
Working knowledge of machine learning and generative AI concepts, the model development lifecycle, and common failure modes.
Familiarity with AI governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF, CHAI, ISO/IEC 42001) and healthcare regulations (HIPAA, FDA SaMD, ONC HTI-1).
Experience coaching and developing staff in both technical and governance/regulatory domains.
