As a Mainframe Lead Software Engineer within the Consumer and Community Banking JPM Wealth Management team, you will serve as a core technical contributor in an agile environment. You will lead the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices while managing vendor evaluations and contributing to engineering communities of practice. The role requires advanced proficiency in Java, z/OS mainframe capabilities including JCL, CICS, IMS, MQ, DB2, and USS, alongside experience with CI/CD pipelines, cloud native technologies, and the specific technical complexities inherent in financial services IT systems.

What you'll do

Design, develop, and troubleshoot end-to-end solutions across z/OS mainframe and Java-based platforms.
Build and maintain secure, high-quality production code while performing peer code reviews.
Drive automation and observability improvements to eliminate recurring issues and improve operational stability.
Lead the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices for coding, refactoring, and testing.
Establish validation standards for AI-generated outputs to ensure security, performance, and accuracy.
Evaluate architectural designs and technical credentials during sessions with external vendors and internal teams.
Lead Software Engineering communities of practice to promote engineering excellence and emerging technologies.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
5+ years of applied experience in software engineering.
Advanced proficiency in Java with experience integrating distributed applications with z/OS mainframe capabilities.
Experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and production support across enterprise platforms.
Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery practices, including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
Experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools while ensuring security and quality standards.
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows and data sensitivity considerations.
In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.
