As a Lead Software Engineer - Backend Engineer - Java and AI within the Consumer and Community Banking’s Utility team, you will lead an agile team building data-centric, low-latency, high-throughput distributed applications and robust APIs. You will manage the full Software Development Life Cycle using Java, Spring Boot, AWS cloud technologies, and Kafka. Additionally, you will lead evaluation sessions with vendors and internal teams regarding architectural designs. The role focuses on solving technical challenges within financial services IT systems by ensuring platforms remain secure, stable, and aligned with core business objectives through automated testing and CI/CD.

What you'll do

Lead an agile team in building data-centric, low-latency, high-throughput distributed applications.
Design, develop, and debug secure, high-quality production code using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and Kafka.
Drive the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
Establish validation standards for AI outputs including security, performance, and peer review protocols.
Identify and automate the remediation of recurring issues to improve system operational stability.
Lead technical evaluation sessions with external vendors and internal teams to assess architectural designs and applicability.
Manage end-to-end technical solutions across multiple domains to ensure scalability and alignment with business objectives.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
Advanced proficiency in Java.
Experience developing secure, scalable, and resilient solutions using Spring Boot, AWS cloud technologies, and Kafka.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools for coding, review, and troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows including data sensitivity and security.
Proficiency in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security (preferred); cloud native experience (preferred).
