The Lead Principal Field Systems Engineer is an individual contributor role within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure team. This position focuses on improving deployment readiness, commissioning, and production handoff across complex technical and operational environments. The engineer will partner with cross-functional teams to identify recurring deployment pain points in hardware, networking, cabling, power, and cooling. Key responsibilities include establishing ground truth for readiness issues, building validation mechanisms, and converting field learnings into repeatable operating rhythms and dashboards. The role requires strong analytical capabilities using metrics, spreadsheets, and workflow tools to drive systemic fixes. The work addresses the technical challenge of scaling GPU and cloud infrastructure by transforming ambiguous field observations into durable process improvements, ensuring predictable capacity delivery for high-priority AI and cloud programs.
Identify recurring deployment pain points across site readiness, hardware, networking, cabling, power, and cooling.
Establish ground truth for commissioning and handoff issues that are not reflected in standard reporting.
Translate field problems into clear requirements, process fixes, and playbook updates for technical owners.
Build readiness gates, go/no-go criteria, and validation mechanisms to improve the path to production.
Drive systemic fixes to prevent recurring deployment issues across different regions and programs.
Convert field learnings into repeatable mechanisms, dashboards, and executive narratives.
Travel to deployment sites to partner with cross-functional teams and resolve infrastructure hurdles.
What we're looking for
7+ years of experience in operational excellence, field engineering, deployment execution, technical program management, or similar complex environments.
Proven track record of operating hands-on in ambiguous, high-tempo environments.
Experience driving cross-functional initiatives across teams, stakeholders, vendors, and customers.
Experience identifying systemic issues, building repeatable mechanisms, and improving measurable outcomes.
Strong analytical capability using metrics, dashboards, spreadsheets, and other data sources.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for executive-level updates and recommendations.
Ability to influence teams and senior stakeholders without direct authority.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience in hyperscale cloud, data center infrastructure, AI infrastructure, or other complex technical delivery environments (preferred).
Familiarity with infrastructure deployment, site readiness, commissioning, and production handoff (preferred).
Understanding of physical infrastructure fundamentals like power, cooling, cabling, and network readiness (preferred).
Experience with GPU/AI infrastructure, high-density infrastructure, or large-scale cloud capacity programs (preferred).
Experience building readiness frameworks, operating playbooks, and closed-loop process-improvement mechanisms (preferred).
