The Lead Java Software Engineer will join the team to design, build, and deliver the next generation of operational claims systems supporting Allstate Dealer Services. This technical leader will contribute to the architecture, development, and delivery of modern backend services and applications to modernize how Dealer Services manages claims operations. Key responsibilities include developing backend services and APIs, participating in Agile ceremonies, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. The role requires expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, and Spring AOP. Candidates must possess skills in RESTful APIs, microservices, relational databases, and SQL. Technical requirements include experience with JUnit, Selenium, JBehave, GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, Maven, Kubernetes, Docker, and Datadog. Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs for enterprise payment solutions.
Contribute to the architecture and operation of scalable microservices and distributed systems.
Translate complex operational needs into scalable, reliable, and maintainable technology solutions.
Apply engineering best practices including clean code, test-driven development, and automated testing.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for reliable software delivery.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and support applications in production environments.
Ensure all code adheres to established coding standards and security requirements.
What we're looking for
4+ years of software development experience using Java and J2EE technologies, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IoC, Spring Security, and Spring AOP.
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, service discovery, testing, and microservice architectures.
Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and modern software development practices.
Experience with relational databases, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and SQL development.
Experience with automated testing and Test Driven Development (TDD) using frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium, or JBehave.
Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, Gradle, or Maven.
Experience deploying and operating containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, or similar platforms.
Experience developing and supporting production services with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog (preferred).
