Lead Engineer, Automation Integration & Scale Engineering

What you'll do

• Design and implement backend systems that power store and warehouse operations.
• Lead technical discovery and rapid prototyping to evaluate new ideas and prove their value.
• Build scalable, production-ready software integrations connecting Target systems with automation solutions.
• Translate real-world operational problems into scalable engineering solutions in collaboration with product and platform teams.
• Guide the team through ambiguous problem spaces by making smart trade-offs for high-quality delivery.
• Mentor other engineers on design, performance, scalability, and general engineering best practices.
• Integrate software with automation systems that interact with physical devices and operational workflows.
• Maintain high standards for reliability, observability, monitoring, and ongoing system evolution.

What we're looking for

• A 4-year degree or equivalent experience is required.
• At least 7 years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation is required.
• Strong expertise in designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures is required.
• Hands-on experience building resilient, high-throughput backend systems is required.
• Experience working with automation, hardware integration, or operational tech is a plus (preferred).
• Ability to work across ambiguous, fast-moving initiatives while providing clarity and structure is required.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong bias for action are required.
