Lead CPU Performance Analysis Engineer
As a Lead CPU Performance Analysis Engineer within the SoC Architecture team, you will drive critical initiatives in performance analysis, tuning, and workload characterization. You will be responsible for collecting performance data across various workloads, profiling execution to identify optimization opportunities in software and hardware, and developing tools to capture representative traces for CPU performance simulators. Your daily work involves creating micro-benchmarks to evaluate competitor SoC characteristics and building competitive performance prediction models. To succeed, you must possess a strong grasp of computer architecture and OS fundamentals while demonstrating proficiency in C, C++, x86, and ARM assembly. You will utilize scripting languages like Bash, Perl, and Python, alongside tools such as Vtune and perf. The role focuses on solving complex hardware and software performance challenges within the server and client domains.
Collect CPU performance data for various workloads and benchmarks.
Conduct detailed workload characterization on silicon and performance simulators.
Profile workload execution to identify performance improvements in software and hardware.
Develop tools and techniques to collect representative workload traces for CPU simulators.
Create micro-benchmarks to analyze the performance characteristics of competitor CPUs and SoCs.
Build competitive performance prediction models based on industry standard benchmarks.
Present competitive performance data in a concise manner to stakeholders.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, Master's with 7+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in system architecture technology areas such as Power Systems, Shared Resource Management, or Thermal Management.
Strong grasp of computer architecture and operating system fundamentals.
Proficiency in C, C++, x86, and ARM compatible assembly language.
Strong scripting skills in Bash, Perl, or Python.
Familiarity with CPU performance models and hardware performance profiling tools like Vtune or perf.
Experience characterizing industry standard benchmarks and workloads such as CPU2017, GeekBench, Memcached, or NGINX.
Experience in OS internals (Windows/Linux/Android), system programming, and compilers like GCC or LLVM.
