Industry Architect, Research & Development

What you'll do

• Lead R&D opportunities from pre-sales through delivery, including technical scoping, use case qualification, and project planning.
• Translate complex scientific and engineering challenges into product backlogs, user stories, and target-state AI architectures.
• Design and deliver MVPs, proof-of-concepts, and production-ready solutions involving data pipelines and agentic AI.
• Act as a technical bridge between research scientists, executive stakeholders, and internal engineering teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Evaluate emerging AI capabilities to ensure solutions are scientifically credible and technically feasible for R&D workflows.
• Develop reusable patterns, reference architectures, and playbooks to scale R&D motions across different industries.
• Provide feedback from field learnings to influence Microsoft’s product roadmap and engineering priorities.

What we're looking for

• A Master's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field is required for candidates with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field is required for candidates with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Candidates must have equivalent experience if they do not hold the specified degrees.
• At least 2 years of experience managing multiple projects or portfolios is required.
• At least 1 year of experience leading blended, multidisciplinary teams is required.
• Experience applying AI, machine learning, generative AI, and advanced analytics to real-world scientific or business problems is preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud services, agentic AI architectures, and high-performance computing is preferred.
• Experience in pharma or life sciences R&D, such as drug discovery or genomics, is preferred.
