The Head of Mechanical Strategic Supply Chain is a Director leadership role responsible for architecting and executing the sourcing strategy across all mechanical commodities. You will lead a high-performing team to build a resilient, scalable supply chain capable of moving from New Product Introduction to high-volume production while navigating complex geopolitical landscapes and regulated defense channels. Your daily responsibilities include managing supplier lifecycles, negotiating master service agreements, performing should-cost modeling, and partnering with engineering teams on DFM and GD&T optimizations. The role requires expertise in 5-axis CNC machining, composite layups, high-pressure casting, plastic injection molding, and metal stamping. You will manage a portfolio including structural castings, forgings, and fasteners to ensure supply continuity for mission-critical hardware. Key competencies include strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, risk mitigation, and experience with complex manufacturing environments like aerospace or defense.
Architect and execute multi-year global sourcing strategies for mechanical commodities including CNC machining, castings, and composites.
Build and lead a high-performing team of commodity managers and technical sourcing engineers across multiple sites.
Serve as the executive sponsor for Tier 1 suppliers and contract manufacturers to establish long-term strategic alliances.
Partner with engineering teams to drive design for manufacturing (DFM), cost optimizations, and material selection.
Lead high-stakes negotiations for master service agreements, pricing structures, and intellectual property protections.
Identify and mitigate supply chain risks such as single-source dependencies and geopolitical vulnerabilities.
Conduct "should-cost" modeling and total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluations to optimize value from concept to production.
Serve as the primary executive escalation point for critical supply chain matters with C-suite leadership.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Operations, Business, or a related technical discipline.
10+ years of experience in mechanical and structural strategic sourcing, global commodity management, or supply chain leadership.
5+ years of experience building, managing, and scaling high-performing procurement or supply chain teams.
Expertise negotiating enterprise-level agreements for various manufacturing methods including CNC machining, composites, casting, and injection molding.
Proven track record of managing supplier lifecycles and negotiating multi-million-dollar commercial agreements.
Deep understanding of New Product Introduction (NPI) workflows and scaling from prototype to high-rate production.
Ability to travel up to 25%-50% domestically and internationally as needed.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security clearance.
